A. Sommerville & Co. was an English steel pen nib company founded by Alfred Sommerville in 1851 and associated with Birmingham’s pen industry. The firm manufactured its own pens and also worked with Josiah Mason, who supplied nibs principally for continental European markets. Many designs were invented or suggested by Sommerville himself. Mason acquired the business in 1870 and continued trading under the A. Sommerville & Co. name. The business later became part of Perry & Co. Limited.
The Schell Fish Feder no. 299 EF is a pointed steel dip pen nib with an extra-fine writing point. Its fine point is suited to delicate handwriting, pointed-pen calligraphy and detailed line work.
