Brause & Co. was founded in 1850 in Iserlohn, Germany, initially as a manufacturer of needles. The company began producing steel pen nibs in 1895 and built a reputation for precision and quality. Its distinctive rooster trademark became a recognisable symbol of the brand. Brause developed a wide range of nibs for handwriting, calligraphy and drawing, combining the metalworking traditions of Iserlohn with specialised nib designs.
The Brause & Co no.60 has a rounded, slightly upturned writing tip and produces a line approximately 0.8 mm wide. This rigid, non-flexible nib offers little pressure-induced line variation. Originally designed for making carbon copies of handwritten documents, it is suited to firm, consistent writing.
