Hinks, Wells & Co was an English manufacturer of steel dip pen nibs, established in Birmingham in 1836. The company produced a wide variety of nibs for handwriting, lettering and drawing, alongside penholders and other stationery accessories. Its distinctive “J” pens were among its recognised designs. Around 1920, Hinks, Wells & Co joined William Mitchell to form British Pens Ltd.

The Hinks, Wells & Co No. 132 is a vintage steel dip pen nib with a compact body and a V-shaped vent opening. Its packaging bears the names “État Belge” and “Belg. Staat”, together with the manufacturer’s Birmingham and London locations.
